Our light of life can be made to burn brightly. It is the light that is already within us, one of faith that enlightens our humble minds. It is ideal that we radiate such light. By so doing we dispel all darkness that is bent on engulfing us. Such light that we radiate is a free gift and one of the greatest gifts of gifts. It is supernatural and has been part of us from creation. It is a gift of faith and piety. A Dutch Renaissance humanist, Catholic priest and theologian Desiderius Erasmus (1466 – 1536) said, “Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself.”

O Light Eternal

Christians are the light of the world. They demonstrate this by their walk, talk and demeanor. Some persons in common parlance refer to them as Angles of Light among us. They are light that enlightens every darkness. They mirror the light of the stars that twinkle in the sky on moonlit nights. Through them many have come to discover peace, a peace in their hearts and joy in their hearts and minds. Through these focused beams there will be the light of love shining brightly, revealing the truth of love. This is when beauty is captured in its glorious hopefulness. It was Wendell Berry
(b. 1934) an American novelist, poet and environmental activist that remarked, “To cherish what remains of the Earth and to foster its renewal is our legitimate hope of survival.”  Our light is the Earth's hope.

Light of Peace

Imagine a flicker of light that transforms a scene from darkness and reveals its real essence. With true light comes instruments of peace. It is best for such peace to begin in an American home and spread out throughout the many homes, villages and societies of our world. That is when peace is planted and grows and grows until it bears much fruit. We know how it feels without peace when constant torment irks our souls. So it is ideal to play our part in pursuing peace even with our next door neighbor, remembering much good can be accomplished through dialogue.

There are steps in achieving the dream of peace. This we can do by persevering and sifting out a neighborly and peaceful existence. Once accomplished we would touch the gift of peace. This is done through light and courage. An American professional surfer Bethany Hamilton (b. 1990) was convinced, “It's easy to look at the things of this world to solve our challenges and obstacles to life, but when we submit our lives to Christ, His grace, mercy, peace and love will bring true fulfillment to our lives.” Real peace can only come to our lives through resolutions that involve the working of the Holy Spirit.

Light of the Gospel

A Chinese teacher, politician and philosopher Confucius (551 – 479BC) revealed, “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” This is so true. It is easy to read the Gospels and grasp what has to be done to live in the light. By such Scripture a reader will be strengthened, enlightened and brought to life. Darkness will be banished from his thoughts and actions. He will be cultivating a character that renews his life while being transformed into a new being of light.

Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace will be his ideal. He will walk with Him and talk with Him. His conscience will be a flame of hope. The Prince of Peace will be his savior, teacher, guardian and provider. Much of what he does will be revealed in his new life and the city where he lives will be transformed to a City of Peace. This is when the true message of the Gospels go out to all capturing souls, filling them with peace and serenity. It was an American Baptist minister and leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 – 1968) that declared, “Life most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others.'”

With our lights we have to heal the brokenhearted. Go into the highways and byways and greet the poor and the disenfranchised telling them that a new day has dawned. There we will gather up the homeless, guiding the poor and needy into paths of righteousness. For with our actions we will be pushing the light of peace, love and truth to in every nook and cranny of our daily life.
